Couple facing drug charges further remanded

A couple found in possession of more than 416.6 grams of methamphetamine has been further remanded by the Suva Magistrates court yesterday.

Lambert Kuruvoli and Alena Rogo are jointly charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs, while Rogo faces an additional count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged the two imported the illicit drug on September 10th and October 13th.

The initial discovery was made by a Customs officer at the Nadi International Airport when the officer noticed a suspicious package which arrived from the United States containing items for a baby.

Upon further analysis, two bottles were found containing plastics with white powder which later tested positive as methamphetamine.

Rogo who picked up the parcel from Raiwaqa, informed the Police that she was picking up the items on behalf of her husband.

Police prosecutor Corporal Raymond Filipe informed the court that the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further prosecution.

The accused couple had filed for bail application.

The matter was adjourned for hearing to November 5.
