The Sugar Cane Growers Council has thanked the government for the new initiatives announced in the 2018/2019 budget.

Chief executive, Sundresh Chetty says this is a family budget that will also care for the cane farmers.

Chetty says the amount of grant and subsidy being given to the sugar cane industry is great.

He says farmers will be able to increase their production with these assistance.

The industry stakeholders have estimated that 1.7 to 1.8 million tonnes of cane will be crushed by the three major sugar mills.
