Council officers to be on the ground for market surveillance

April 19, 2019 7:50 am

The Consumer Council officer will be on the ground monitoring various shops and supermarkets this weekend.

According to the Consumer Watchdog during this time some unscrupulous traders try to make quick money as well as clear their old stock, which otherwise may have been difficult to sell on a normal business day.

Consumer Council Chief Executive Seema Shandil says apart from supermarkets, the Consumer Council’s market surveillance for this Easter weekend will extend to other food retailers as well.

We are extending our market surveillance not only to the supermarkets also to the butcher outlets out there and also to the service stations.

She has urged consumers to be alert while doing their shopping.

So with Easter weekend approaching there will be a lot of shopping hype because this is the time we spend with our family and there will be lot of specials so what I would advise the consumers is to be very vigilant, examine very carefully, demand for good products and services and don’t get into impulsive buying

The Consumer Council will also have a mobile unit during the Easter weekend at different places to assist consumers.
