The Fiji Corrections Service have attained ninety percent of the requirements under the Mandela Rules.

Deputy Commissioner, Apimeleki Taukei says they are pleased to have reached that level, however, work still needs to be in other areas.

”It’s basically how we treat offenders in providing all the basic necessities for the treatment of offenders with respect to quality accommodation, availability of fresh drinking water, services provided for the provision of food requirements – which is in line with good health practices.”

Taukei says a workshop was conducted yesterday which was facilitated by Philip Meissner from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
