The Land Forces Division of the RFMF has put together a contingency plan, should Fiji face a situation similar to what happened in Christchurch.

Chief Staff Officer Operations Land Force, Major Jeremaia Waqanisau says the fact that the shootings happened so close to home prompted them to meet and discuss the plan.

Major Waqanisau says the Military Forces stands ready to back up the Police Force with weapons.

“There is a plan in place to react to such an incident, assisting police first in reacting with arms – helping them react to a possible shooting and supporting them afterward.”

Without divulging any further details, Major Waqanisau says all military installations throughout Fiji are working off this plan.

It is being guided by the Land Force Command at Delainabua along with the RFMF Strategic Headquarters at Berkley Crescent, the Ministry of Defence and the security partners – the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service.
