The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is advising the public to be cautious when shopping for products on discount especially in areas that were affected by the recent floods.

FCCC chief executive Joel Abraham says people in the Western Division have received their M-Paisa cards under the Homes CARE initiative and they must be careful with what they purchase.

He says they’re officers on the ground have also noticed that some businesses have slashed prices on products which were partially damaged from the floods.

“Consumers, I reiterate that consumers must actually look at what you are buying and what you are paying for and get your maximum value out of it. For businesses they still owe an obligation to inform the consumers that look these are the items that were salvaged out of flood. The warranty provisions, and backup sales and after support should still be made available.”

Abraham says customers need to check their products before purchasing to avoid any disappointments.
