The Consumer Council of Fiji is against a tax rebate on spare parts by the Fiji Taxi Association.

Council chief executive Premila Kumar says the tax rebate will affect consumers who will end up forking out more from their pockets.

Kumar says the taxi industry continuously makes excuses when it comes to improving their fleet.

“Now this is rather strange because government has recently awarded almost 100 percent fare increase and the Fiji Taxi Association immediately after six months with the begging bowl and this mentality must go if they are doing business.”

Upgrading the fleet is part and parcel of the deed that was signed between the government and the Fiji Taxi Association.
