Consumer Council welcomes LTA reform

June 23, 2015 5:04 am

The Consumer Council of Fiji welcomes the announcement by the government to reform the Land Transport Authority (LTA), which will see much-needed improvement in its service delivery.

Council chief executive officer Premila Kumar says for a long time our roads have been full of defective vehicles, especially the public service vehicles, and outdated policies that are subjective and irrelevant.

Kumar says from 2011 the Council had been requesting LTA to provide LTA-approved timetables of all bus companies under the road route license including the bus fare structure.

Unfortunately, LTA could not provide this which the Council would have used to make bus companies accountable in their service delivery.

The Council is now looking forward to the wide-ranging changes recommended in a major shake-up of the LTA to modernize the country’s transport industry and keeping our roads safe.
