Consumer Council to Work with Fiji Masters Builders Association

February 9, 2018 1:14 am

The Consumer Council will be working with Fiji Master Builders Association to ensure all construction companies get their license.

Chief executive, Premila Kumar, says when companies are not licensed and regulated they feel what they are doing is right and are not considering the needs of their customers.

She says there is also no gauging whether the people who are part of the industry are qualified and have the relevant skills to do the job.

Kumar adds for the past five years the Council has received a total of 150 complaints which adds up to 3.1 million dollars.

“I think licensing of these contractors is extremely important and we do have Fiji Masters Builders Association and they can do this work very easily as an association to bring about some control but surely they need the assistance and guidance on this and we are supporting Fiji Masters Builders Association.”

Kumar says licensing these companies will bring about major reforms in the way these companies deliver services.
