Construction council maps out plans for expansion

Plans are in the pipeline to expand the Construction Industry Council.

This was revealed by the Council President, Gordon Jenkins who says they are now working with relevant stakeholders on this initiative.

The Council is comprises of major construction enterprises in the country, including the builders, sub-contractors, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, hardware suppliers, developers and project managers along with Government representatives.

At the recent council’s meeting in Suva, members explored a number of issues that were of concern and contribute to the restricting growth of the industry.

Jenkins says these issues include proper licensing of builders, condition of contractual contracts, tender processes, building standards, shortage of trade skills and apprenticeship schemes.

The Construction Industry Council has been mandated by the industry to review operations, procedures and policies to ensure best practices plus advise the public on issues that are causing concern to them.
