Construction begins for new Vatuwaqa bridge

Construction work has commenced on the new bridge that will be built alongside the existing Vatuwaqa bridge in Suva.

Fiji Roads Authority Manager for Bridges and Jetties, Nixon Toremana says the site works and relocation of services on the bridge is in progress.

He adds work on the the Stinson Parade Bridge in Suva will begin later this year.

Toremana says the demolition of the Ports Authority building to make way for the new Stinson Bridge has been completed.

The cost of both bridges is $30million which is funded by the China Government Grant Aid.

The Fijian Government’s contribution is $4.5 million dollars.

The construction of both the bridges is programmed to take two and a half years.
