Constitutional Offices Commission meets

The Constitutional Offices Commission will now begin meeting regularly, with the next meeting scheduled for May 8.

The committee met for the first time yesterday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

The other members are Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and
Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa.

Civil engineer, Sanjay Kaba and FNPF chairman, Ajith Kodagoda has been appointed to the commission on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Lawyer, Richard Naidu was appointed on the advice of the Leader of Opposition.

The Commission is responsible for providing advice to the President on appointments to various high levels – independent positions, which fall outside the scope of the government.

These include the Chair and members of the Human Rights and Anti Discrimination Commission, Chairperson and members of the Public Service Commission, the Chair and members of the Electoral Commission, Elections Supervisor and the Secretary General to Parliament.
