Congo national Lusaka to undergo psychiatric evaluation

39-year-old Congo national, Henri Lusaka who facing a murder charge is expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Lusaka who is now being represented by the Fiji Law Society appeared in the Suva High court this morning.

The defense lawyer informed the court that she had discussions with Lusaka and based on the statement by the witnesses asked for him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

This is to determine whether Lusaka is fit to stand trial and whether he was under the influence of mental illness at the time of the alleged offense.

It is alleged that on 23rd of July 2019, Lusaka murdered his wife Jennifer Downes who was a logistic officer for the United Nation’s World Food Program in the Pacific.

The matter has been adjourned to the 4th of September to check on the psychiatric report.
