Concerted effort needed to eliminate child labour

The Employment Ministry aims to end all forms of child labour by 2025.

Minister, Jone Usamate, says they want to achieve these goals for the benefit of the next generation of workers.

According to the International Labour Report, there are about 541 million workers between the ages of 15-24 which includes 37 million children who work in hazardous conditions.

“This age group of our young is very vulnerable in workplace for a number of reasons one because of their physical state of development, their psychological state of development the way they think, their attitudes towards life, their lack of work experience, lack full of appreciation of the dangers of what they face,lack of training and lack of knowledge and skills.”

Usamate says the global workforce requires a concerted and integrated approach to eliminate child labour and promote culture prevention on occupational health and safety.
