February 1, 2019 6:06 am

All employers must comply with the new employment leave provisions.

Employment Minister, Parveen Bala says this is under the Employment Relations (Budget Amendment) Act 2018 that came into effect from January 1st.

This instruction comes after the Ministry received queries from employers on the issue earlier this week.

Bala says the Act provides for five working days family care leave, five working days paternity leave and 98 days maternity leave.

He says an investigation into the Family Care leave provision with Quality Print is now being resolved.

Managing Director, Diwan Maharaj has agreed to grant the family care leave to workers after meeting the Ministry’s Compliance team.

The Ministry has been providing awareness on the new leave provisions through talk-back shows, on-site inspections, awareness, public consultations and will continue to do so in the future.

Bala has also urged all workers to follow proper procedures when applying for leave and to use them for the right purpose.
