Comply with rural water and sanitation policy procedures

All water and sanitation implementing and funding agencies for rural water and wastewater projects in the country are required to comply with the rural water and Sanitation policy procedures.

A statement released by Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure Paul Bayly says it’s a requirement as per a Cabinet decision that agencies abide by this.

This also includes the associated practical guidelines for rural water supply management plan.

The government has provided a framework to improve water and sanitation services in the rural areas for the best utilization of water resources to benefit communities.

The practical guidelines for rural water supply management plan aims to ensure the development of appropriate and sustainable community owned and maintained systems.

It is done through capacity building and community involvement in the construction, operation and maintenance of their respective systems.

It’s mandatory under the rural water and sanitation policy for implementer to submit to the department of water and sewerage a water supply management plan.

It must also address sanitation issues such as wastewater management to ensure the protection of the local environment.
