Work on four-lane road project expected to be delayed

May 7, 2019 11:03 am

The Fiji Roads Authority says the suspension of night works on the four-lane project along the Kings road will cause a delay.

Chief Executive Jonathan Moore has confirmed to FBC News that work on the 3.8km upgrade project expected to be completed by the end of next month may not be possible.

He says the projected completion may take longer after calling off night works due to the behavior of some arrogant and inconsiderate drivers.

Moore says they made this decision yesterday so they’re currently assessing the implication.

FRA has suspended night works along the Kings Road because road workers lives were at risk.

He says it’s very frustrating to see arrogant and inconsiderate drivers continue to treat the active construction as a highway, despite road construction signs in place.

Some motorists drive on the Kings Road like it’s a busy highway, however, it’s not, as it’s a road under construction.

The safety of FRA workers is paramount, therefore, the Chief Executive is calling on drivers to treat the construction site with respect and allow workers to conduct their work in a safe environment to avoid any incident.

Motorists are reminded to slow down as indicated by the temporary traffic signs, follow the instructions of the site traffic personnel, and pay attention while driving along the construction sites.
