August 23, 2019 4:47 pm

Complaints lodged to the Fiji Corrections Service by inmates, families, and friends are attended to professionally and appropriate responses are made.

This was highlighted by the Commissioner, Commander Francis Kean while presenting on the topic of Human Rights for Prisoners during the Regional Legal Aid Conference in Natadola.

Commander Kean says that all Correction Centers have Barrack Commanders who are the first point of contact for any complaint or request.

“Prisoner disciplinary procedure is attended to professionally whenever the need arises. Accessibility to legal aid and guidance is always available. This support comes from the prisoners’ private lawyers’ visits, judicial visits and visits by lawyers from the Legal Aid Commission.”

Commander Kean also noted that the Fiji Human Rights Anti-Discrimination Commission continues to provide referrals to the FCS on the complaints from inmates.
