The Tongan community in Fiji is calling on its members to stand down after the death of a Tongan man in an alleged brawl over the weekend.
A message posted on facebook says the community is greatly concerned for the safety of students at the University of the South Pacific – no matter where they are from.
22 year old student, Sione Tufui had gone out with friends when an alleged brawl occurred outside a nite-club in Suva on Friday night.
The Tongan community is pleading with all Tongan students to stand down and keep away from engaging in any further confrontation.
The statement also says there are a lot of angry students, but things should not be allowed to escalate and involve other innocent students.
It’s understood five Nauru nationals have been taken into police custody.
