Fiji will now be able to access satellite remote sensing technology to tackle the devastating impacts of climate change.

It will also improve access to climate finance through the introduction of the CommonSensing project last year.

Speaking at the press conference yesterday, Permanent Secretary for Economy Makereta Konrote said through this project government agencies will be able use data to develop evidence-based information that can help government improve its access to climate finance and also enhance food security and disaster risk reduction strategy.

Fully-funded by the United Kingdom, British High Commissioner to Fiji Melanie Hopkins said climate change is the backbone of the UK-Pacific relationship and we stand side by side as global leaders on this existential threat.

Hopkins added that the project will enable Fiji to adapt to climate change in a way that ensures resilient and sustainable solutions are designed, developed and delivered in line with Fiji’s needs and ambitions.
