Committee presents Scaling reports

Scaling of marks in external examinations continue to worry the Education Ministry.

Education Minister Mahendra Reddy received two reports yesterday from the University of the South Pacific outlining the pros and cons of scaling marks in Year 12 and 13.

He says this reports will be presented to parliament to determine whether scaling will be removed or stay in the Education system.

The review team has reviewed the scaling of marks in detail and has made a few recommendations.

USP’s Paul Satya says scaling of marks in external exams in Years 12 and 13 should be stopped as this help ease the burden it puts on many students when they attain their final marks.

However, another member of the committee Dr Jito Vanualailai says scaling should remain as it recognizes the difficulty of subjects and doesn’t discriminate those who attempted these subjects.
