Commissioner briefed on west cases

Police Commissioner Major General Ben Groenewald has been briefed on the major cases reported in the Western Division.

The Commissioner has instructed investigators to liaise with the family of the 7-year-old who was allegedly raped in Lautoka and offer professional counseling.

No arrests have been made in regards to the alleged raped as yet and Groenewald is urging the public with information to call Crimestoppers on 919.

Meanwhile, the two youths aged 16 and 17-years who are alleged to have been involved in the death of a 29-year-old mechanic are still being questioned.

The Police Commissioner visited the relatives of the deceased, offering his condolences and assuring them that justice will prevail.

And in relation to the alleged murder of the 14-year-old girl in Kulukulu Sigatoka, the two suspects remain in custody.

A woman in a late 20s has been questioned and remains in custody at the Sigatoka Police Station while the other is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital and is yet to be questioned.

An application for extension to keep the first suspect in custody will be made today.
