Commission targets texting competition

May 28, 2012 7:11 pm

The Commerce Commission is now targeting media organisations that run texting competitions.

Commission Chair Dr Mahendra Reddy says they’ve received numerous complaints from the public regarding the way certain competitions are run.

“Opening and closing details and terms and conditions were not disclosed, no transparency when it comes to draws and full details of winners are not given."

Now a new set of rules will decide how to play texting competitions and what information needs to be revealed to the public.

The Commission will give media organisations and the public two weeks to give their views on the draft before the final paper is prepared.

The final guideline will have to be strictly followed while running texting competitions and certain deterrence will also apply for any breach.
