Collective approach is vital: Mishra

Taking a collective approach towards ensuring road safety is vital in preventing road accidents.

Fiji Police Force Director Traffic Mahesh Mishra says it is concerning to see the increased amount of road fatalities recorded this year compared to last year.

Mishra says relevant traffic enforcement agencies need to work together and create more awareness on the safety of road users.

“Is education pedestrians starts from school or from their homes and we should ask ourselves on how we can inject the safety component of every road user whose travelling on the road, that is the missing mark, sometimes safety comes in their mind after they become a victim of road accidents.”

Meanwhile, a total of thirteen drivers are amongst the 55 people who have died on our roads so far this year.

Mishra says 23 passengers, 18 pedestrians and one cyclist have lost their lives due to road accidents so far this year.
