Collaboration with external stakeholders is vital to ensure the safety of women in evacuation centers.

This is after the occurrence of any natural hazards.

Dr Drysdale says women are at risk when being displaced in evacuation centers and that is a focal area for the federation.

“Our member associations so in Fiji that’s RFHAF, Reproductive and Family Health Association of Fiji we respond within communities in partnership with Ministry of Health and other partners to make sure that the needs of women and girls are taken care of”.

 Meanwhile, the Reproductive and Family Health Association of Fiji Executive Director Matelita Seva-Cadravula says they have assisted women and girls who have been victims of some form of abuse in evacuation centers.

“To assist after a disaster has happened and this is around sexual gender based violence, prevention of gender based violence”.

 Seva-Cadravula says the organization will continue to increase its awareness programs in an effort to end violence against women and girls.
