Motorists are requested to be mindful of the presence of police officers manning checkpoints

Motorists are requested to be mindful of the presence of police officers manning checkpoints.

These will be common over the coming weeks.

This request comes as two police officers manning a checkpoint at Wanadoi in Navua narrowly escaped injuries when a driver refused to stop when directed to.

The incident happened last week where the driver drove through the checkpoint.

In another similar case a week before a woman officer was hit while redirecting traffic in Nakasi and as a result she sustained minor injuries.

Both drivers have since been charged.

Director Operations SSP Abdul Khan says snap checkpoints will be erected at any given time and location as part of the ongoing Festive Season Operations Yadrayadravi.

SSP Khan is warning drivers to cooperate with officers when asked to slow down or pull over.

He says while some have raised concerns on the inconvenience caused by the checkpoints, it is being done for the purpose of countering possible illegal activities based on information received.
