Climate change is real: PM

It’s hard to find any part of the world that is unaffected by the threats of extreme climatic events says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
Opening the Pre-COP meeting in Denarau this morning, Bainimarama says we in the Pacific need no lessons on this threat following the devastation caused by the strongest cyclone to ever make landfall last year – TC Winston.
Bainimarama says we can no longer ignore this crisis – whether it is fire in California, Portugal and Spain, flooding in Nigeria, India and, the dramatic Arctic melt or the recent hurricanes that devastated the Caribbean and the southern United States.
“Future generations will rightly judge us on what we did about all of this. We must rise to the challenge. We must commit ourselves to solving this problem."
The Pre-COP brings together Ministers and light level climate change delegates from all regions to provide insights in the expectations of COP23.
It is the final milestone of the preparation of COP23.
