Clerical officer remanded for drug bust

A clerical officer charged with being in possession of illicit drugs has been further remanded.

Mereseini Asenate Luisa Ledua appeared before the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Ledua has been charged with one count of importing illicit drugs and one count of being in possession of illicit drugs namely Methamphetamine.

She was arrested last Friday after picking up a parcel at the Suva Post Office.

The drugs weighing 101.4 grams and valued at $115,000 dollars was packed in a bottle of peanut butter which was sent from America.

The prosecution did not object to bail but requested strict bail conditions.

In response, the Magistrate said the matter was serious and a formal bail application needs to be filed before the court can decide on her bail.

The case will be recalled on July 17th for bail hearing.
