Civil service reforms in progress: PM

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says reforms in Fiji are work in progress and there is still a long way to go.

Bainimarama says there is a major overhaul of the civil service to put the service back into our public sector.

“It is all part of a comprehensive program – working with the World Bank – to overhaul the top-down, excessively hierarchical and bureaucratic public service model we inherited from the British. Establish more meritocracies. Attract high flyers from the private sector.”

Bainimarama says the overall strategy is to develop international best practice across the full spectrum of government.
