Civil servants in the North raise concern on state of homes

September 8, 2018 6:44 pm

Civil servants in the Northern Division have raised their concern to the Prime Minister regarding the state and condition of some of the government quarters.

Speaking to the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during a talanoa session in Labasa, Divisional Secretary North Soko Tuima says a lot of the quarters need repairs and maintenance.

Tuima says the issue has been raised a lot during the Heads of Department meetings following complaints received at various District and Provincial offices.

However, he says they can’t do much because the budget allocation for maintenance and quick repairs of government quarters is no longer given to the Commissioner Northern’s Office.

In response Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama stated he is not aware of the housing policy changes for government quarters and would need to seek clarification from the Ministry of Economy.

The Ministry of Economy’s Construction Implementation Unit now handles the maintenance of all government housing and quarters.
