The inclusion of mediation in the Fiji Standard Building Contract is being discussed by the Construction Industry Council.

Chief Executive, Vijay Naidu says mediation will be their first resort to solve conflicts within the industry.

“There is a lot of issues, legalities that people come and complain, where people don’t get along and we’d like to introduce mediation as part of a dispute resolution. Mediation is a good thing and I think we should give it a good shot. We want to include that in our Fiji Standard Building Contract and we want mediation to be the first way that we can resolve disputes.”

Naidu says mediation might not work in some cases so other avenues will also be considered if the need arises.

The Construction Industry Council is working closely with relevant institutions to enhance the industry.
