Churchill Park upgrades on progress

Upgrading works at Churchill Park is progressing and is expected to be completed by December.

Local Government Minister Parveen Bala says an expression of interest has been advertised for contractors to lay the tracks.

In the meantime, the Lautoka City Council is doing some groundwork while they wait for the contractors.

‘’Those that have the know-how and the laying of the tracks but as far as the pavilions are concerned that has been taken out. The groundwork now has been undertaken by LCC and the drainage after that the contractor will come in and they will start the work’’.

The main ground will be extended towards the Multi-purpose court for the installation of a 400 metres synthetic tracks and a new set of pavilion.

The initial cost was $2.8m however due to some variations the Council is projecting around $3.6m to complete the athletics track.

The facelift is expected to be completed by the end of the year with hopes that the newly refurbished ground will host the two day 2016 Coca Cola Games.
