Chinese community to celebrate 160 years since arrival

The Chinese Community in Fiji will be celebrating the 160th anniversary of the arrival of the first Chinese into the country, on the 05th of September.

To mark the occasion, a procession will be organized to parade through Suva City featuring various Chinese community groups, organisations and businesses.

President Jenny Seeto says the Chinese Community gas successfully provided for their families and has integrated well and contributed immensely to Fiji’s development.

“The Chinese are very grateful to the nation to the country, for giving us and our forefathers a place to live and grow and become so successful, so we all cherish Fiji as our home, we’ve integrated very well in to the community."

With over eight thousand Chinese currently residing in Fiji, more than nine hundred are expected to be part of the anniversary, where Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be chief guest.
