The Chinese Government hopes to maintain the good relationship it has fostered with Fiji over the years when a new government is formed after the general election.
Speaking to FBC News, Chinese ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo says the two nations has created strong ties in trade and strengthened bilateral and cultural relations.
Bo says the Chinese government is ready to work with a newly elected government post polls.
“I hope that the relationship between the two countries and the people will continue. Just like China’s relationship with other countries – it is not affected after a country holds its elections. We also hope the election will be very smooth and successful.”
However, Bo maintains the Chinese government will not be involved in the election process as they understand it’s an internal affairs and a democratic process.
However, they’re ready to assist the Fijian government in any specific training needed for the backend of the electoral process.
The ambassador says the Chinese government is observing the election closely.
