Children still not being registered

October 17, 2012 5:03 am

A large number of parents still haven’t registered their children with the registrar’s office.

According to the Chief Operations of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registrar Maria Ravuto says in most cases – children are being registered when they start school.

This is why the registry is always full prior to the start of a school year.

They want this to change.

“We have started with the awareness programme in the Western Division and the Northern. Early next year we’ll tighten up the awareness programmes to outer / remote villages. We’ll take our services out to them for vital registration purposes.”

Ravuto says they have also had cases where some people who are about to get married come in to get registered.
