Children can now support their parents’ education by withdrawing funds from the Fiji National Provident Fund.

FNPF General Manager Member Services, Alipate Waqarawai says previously members could only withdraw for their spouse, children or siblings education but under the new requirements, parents can also be supported.

Waqarawai says they’ve also increased the amount people can withdraw for their textbooks.

“You know the cost of books now is quiet high so as the result the parents and guardians say they look at the cost of textbooks is quiet expensive, so we‘ve allowed that increase from $200 to $400 per semester and you are allowed to withdraw provided if you have enough eligibility in your general account .You can utilize that in two semesters which means the maximum which you can withdraw is $800 which is 400 dollars per semester for textbooks.”

Waqairawai adds that they have also set aside $2,000 for shot courses overseas.
