Child Neglect is becoming a problem in Fiji

July 28, 2016 5:29 am

Save the Children Fiji Chief Executive Iris Low-McKenzie says child neglect is becoming a problem which has resulted in a loss of lives.

With increases in the number of children drowning, Low-McKenzie is urging parents to take responsibility for their children.

“Children move around quite quickly and very fast and we have to be very vigilant when it comes to that. Ensure that the environment is protected and safe. If there is a river or swimming pool nearby, ensure that the child does not have access or any opportunity to go there unsupervised.”

Low-McKenzie says it’s time that actions are taken against irresponsible parents.

Investigations are underway in relation to two cases where an eleven month old baby died in Labasa and a one year eleven month old was found dead in the Rewa River last week.
