Charge dropped against senior police officer

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has dropped a charge against a Senior Police officer.

Suspended Senior Superintendent Biu Matavou is alleged to have sworn at a junior police officer who was on-duty last year.

The DPP’s Office says in a notice that it does not intend to continue proceedings.

Matavou was charged under Section 65 of the Crimes Decree with one count of promoting communal antagonism.

He was previously the Chief of Staff of the Fiji Police Force.

Matavou has now been reinstated in the police force as Divisional Police Commander Southern.
