Chand granted bail

A taxi driver alleged to have caused the death of a thirty year old man in Valelevu last week, appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court this morning.

25- year-old Akash Chand is charged with Dangerous Driving Occasioning Death.

Akash Chand is alleged to have driven his taxi in a dangerous manner leading to the death of businessman, Ashish Jattan last week.

The accident occurred near the Fiji National University Nasinu Campus in Valelevu.

Jattan was heading toward Suva on his motorcycle when he was in collision with Chand’s taxi.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at CWM Hospital and was buried yesterday.

In court this morning, the police prosecutor served a full phase disclosure and sought restricted bail conditions.

Chand was granted bail with bond of five hundred dollars and presented two sureties.

A stop departure has also been issued and the accused is ordered to stay at his fixed address in Vatuwaqa.

The accused is not to re-offend or interfere with any of the witnesses.

Chand must report to the Nabua Police station every Saturday.

The case has been adjourned to September 15th.
