February 5, 2018 5:15 am

The Nausori landowners have plans to build a one stop government services building where the old Nausori market is currently situated.

Komai Nausori, Ratu Lepani Tagicakibau says the land which belongs to the Mataqali of Nailagobokola was traditionally given to the government during the Colonial times.

Tagicakibau says the government in an agreement with the mataqali, used the land as a pick up and drop off area for a pontoon which was used to carry passengers to the other side of Rewa river as there was no bridge.

“We have been seeking government to return the land back to us since it was given for its initial purpose and status now is native grant so we been writing to government asking I them to return the land back because the use for which it was given initially has gone.”

Komai Nausori says the Nausori Police Station, the Post office, the old market and a taxi base currently sits on this land.

However, plans are already underway by the Nausori town council to build a shopping complex where the old Nausori market is currently situated.
