Carting water to areas affected by the long dry spell remains a challenge for the Water Authority.

Board Director Kamal Gounder says that despite the water carting schedule being rolled out, many are still treating the issue lightly.

Gounder is calling on the public especially those that have been affected to conserve water.

“What we are seeing is that people are still following the water carting schedule. They are calling on non-carting areas on a non-carting schedules on days which are not scheduled for their areas and these are basically not using water wisely.”

He says it’s even more disappointing to know their metered consumers are not saving water and are the first ones to contact the authority during water shutdowns.

“In terms of the resources, we are stressed out with the available resources but we are requesting the general public to store sufficient level so in terms of if there is unplanned shutdown, they can use the stored water.”

The Water Authority is urging the public to use water wisely as 19 out of 45 water sources around the country has reached their critical level.
