Carpenter jailed for raping 8-year-old

A sixty-three-year-old carpenter has been jailed to over eleven years’ imprisonment for raping a child under the age of thirteen.

The incident happened in April, 2015.

The victim was eight-years-old at the time of the offence.

The Lautoka High Court heard the girl was playing with her two sisters after returning from school.

The man was renovating a house in the adjoining compound and called the girls to pour water on the cement.

The man then went inside the house and asked the victim to pick rubbish in the room but there was no rubbish.

The Court hear the carpenter quickly closed the windows of the room and indecently assaulted her.

He is eligible for parole after serving nine years in prison.
