The government bond portfolio in Fiji is relatively large, but all other capital markets in the country are relatively undeveloped.
Senior financial specialist with World Bank Group Aaron Levine says a bond provides business with another source of funds, compared to the banks, and also businesses know the funds coming in and how much they pay.
Levine says they are looking at diversifying the range of financing options available in Fiji as it is a growing economy and developing capital market.
“Streamline issuance processes. Making sure that the documents required are really light and simple. It should contain the information needed to raise the money. It should be attractive to investors so they want to buy it.”
Levine says there’s a relatively significant amount of funds available for investment in Fiji.
