Cane supply needs to be consistent: Chandra

June 5, 2018 5:28 pm

The supply of sugar cane at the various mills during crushing needs to be consistent says Fiji Sugar Corporation’s chief operating officer Navin Chandra.

Chandra says low supply of cane has incurred huge amount of losses for FSC as mills would need to stop operation and restart when there was enough cane to be crushed.

He says farmers need to keep this in mind and work together in their areas to address this.

“We should make the coming crushing season, the best season we have had so far. Making sure that we commence crushing earlier. Normally the first three weeks we do not get good cane supply so it is important to get good cane supply.”

Chandra says over the years, some mills have not been able to operate on Sunday’s due to low cane supply but are hopeful that this will change from this year.

He says FSC anticipates good crushing with the aim of crush over 1.7 million tonnes of cane this season.
