Cane lorry operators frustrated

September 9, 2012 7:00 pm

The slow crushing of cane at the Rarawai Sugar Mill due to a problem in the boiler has cane lorry operators frustrated as a lot of cane have yet to be unloaded.

Fiji Cane Lorry Operators Association General Secretary Mukesh Kumar told FBC news cane lorries are still bringing cane in big numbers but have to wait for very long hours to offload them.

They are calling on the mill management to unload the lorries first before they unload the rail trucks.

Kumar says while they fully understand the boiler problem – the FSC must give priorities to lorry operators as many of them have to spend very long hours and even overnight to get their cane unloaded.

Sugar Cane Growers Council acting chief executive Sundresh Chetty says the issue will be addressed today.
