Over 3,000 cane farmers in Labasa will be sharing $556,372 as part of their Transport Allowance Subsidy for the 2018 season.
The subsidy was handed over by the Labasa Cane Producers Association to the Fiji Sugar Corporation in Labasa this afternoon.
Under the subsidy, Association farmers get $1 for every tonne of cane they produced last season.
Cane farmer Jhakir Hussein says this is the 2nd year he is receiving the subsidy and he is happy.
He adds, the subsidy will be used to keep his farm FairTrade compliant so he can continue to benefit from the country’s sugar export sales.
FSC Chief Financial Officer Manoj Ram says the farmers will get their share of the subsidy in their bank accounts by next Friday.
