The cane farmers in the western division have already begun preparations for the next crushing season.

Following the recent rainy weather the farmers have begun work on their fields.

Sugar Cane Growers Council chief executive, Sundresh Chetty, says some farmers are also planting new cane.

Chetty says many farmers had already prepared their fields and were waiting for rain to begin the planting.

The Cane Planting Program has been extended until the 30th of this month.

Chetty says the cane planted during this month will be ready for harvesting by the next crushing season.
