Buses to be accessible to the disabled

Sick, elderly, people on crutches and even pregnant mothers face difficulties in boarding buses and matters worsen if they have to climb step after step.

Director Transport Lui Naisara says now it’s time for bus companies to make the necessary changes in the routes they serve.

He says routes must meet the demand from that particular locality.

Teabara Transport Companies is one of the first in Fiji to introduce buses that has three steps and is moving from the old fleet of four steps.

Company CEO Arvind Maharaj says by next year they would like to introduce two step fleets.
