The Fiji Roads Authority says introducing designated bus lanes will help address the issue of traffic congestion.

FRA chief executive Jonathan Moore says peak hour traffic congestion has become an issue.

Moore says these bus lanes will be marked blue – designated for buses only.

The chief executive says strict rules will be implemented.

The lanes are actually only for buses and will be monitored by cameras and people who do not follow the rules will be fined. This is a very good scheme and it is used everywhere in the world and it has been a great success.

Plans are underway to trial a dedicated bus lane between the Suva to Nausori Corridor in the next 18 months.

The FRA says this will only be introduced in other parts of the country if the trial period is successful in the Central Division.
