Bus driver in police custody

Police officers have taken a bus driver in for questioning about an accident on the Viseisei bypass road in Vuda outside of Lautoka this morning.

Fifty-two passengers mostly workers were traveling from Lautoka to Nadi in the Nadi General Transport Company bus when the driver is reported to have lost control of the vehicle.

The bus hit a power pole then landed in a ditch.

The Police spokesperson in the West, Naina Ragigia said a woman was thrown out of the bus through the windscreen.

Fourteen passengers were treated for minor injuries at the Lautoka Hospital then sent home.

Police are still trying to verify the condition of the woman.

They are also awaiting the result of an inspection by the Land Transport Authority officers before progressing with their investigation.

The owners of the bus company would not comment.
